I welcomes opportunities to collaborate with scholars across disciplines on projects related to child and family health and well-being.
My background is interdisciplinary in human sciences and sociology. I am particularly interested in risk and resilience of children, youth, and families. I have completed research projects related to adverse and positive childhood experiences (ACEs and PCEs); parenting and coparenting relationships; neighborhood, poverty, and cultural contexts; youth behavioral and mental health outcomes. Please refer to my Research page for more details.
Methodologically, I have considerable experience in statistical modeling with large-scale longitudinal and cross sectional datasets (e.g., FFCWS, NSCAW, CCOULD, NSCH) and in collecting primary survey data. I run advanced statistical analyses including structural equation modeling (e.g., SEM, RI-CLPM) and mixture modeling (e.g., LCA, LGM). I also engage in mixed-methods evaluation and qualitative research.
I look forward to our interdisciplinary collaborations that integrate diverse data sources, apply rigorous analytical approaches, and evaluate programs and policies to promote child and family well-being.

I enjoy working with students and provide a wide range of opportunities for research engagement and collaboration. The figure below shows the general research process in which students can participate at any point.

Junior Graduate Students
- Junior graduate students new to research are invited to join my projects, where you can gain research experience as contributing authors. I assign manageable tasks that match your comfort level and provide timely feedback to support your growth. This involvement also helps you build your academic vitae early with national conference presentations and peer-reviewed publications.
Senior Graduate Students
- For senior graduate students seeking first-authored publications and research team experience, I encourage you to lead your own projects and connect you with potential collaborators from my network.
Undergraduate Students
- Undergraduate students interested in research are included in ongoing projects, given detailed instructions, and encouraged to practice presenting your findings at local and national conferences.
High School Students
- For high school students, I help design feasible mini projects to spark your interest in research.
Through these tailored opportunities, I support students in their academic and professional development at every stage. Since I arrived at OU, all students working with me have had peer-reviewed publications, conference presentations, or both.
If you are interested in working on research projects, please email to me at dan.wang@ou.edu:
- A brief description of your interest (no more than 100 words)
- Your resume/CV
- A sample of your writing (can be a class paper)
